Must admit that after having ridden in the Brinks and Long Mynnd events (both cracking days out and well organised by the Man17 club) it soon became apparent that I had neither skill or bottle. I also learned that at the age of 43 I no longer 'bounce' as well as I used to and to take a 'dab' at 40mph is a very stupid thing to do. I have finally decided it is much less painful (on the wallet as well as the body) to sit at home in front of the TV drinking cold beer and watching the womens beach volleyball world championship series!! Good job the Missus doesn't read these posts!! Eiger.

Ok then, lets put a few things straight. Timecard Enduros are hard work. 40 or 50% drop out in some. Laps of 20+ miles all ridden unseen. Time schedules to keep to and work out. High bike maintainance due to being used and covering more than a few miles each time out. They're a mental as well as a physical challenge. How easy do you want it? Check out each bit your gonna ride then tell the competition the best line! Duhh! No hydration packs 'coz you never work up a real sweat. And you keep having breaks all the time in between sections. Oh, and I can't recall seeing any enduro lads wearing one piece lycra suits! Very snazzy.

Enduros are for girls eh? better than being and old woman trials rider!!!
Trails are for people who get a nose bleed above 10 mph as it would also blow off their nice shiny Lycra suit (it might even get dirty)
Example- Trails maintenance after an event - polish the clutch lever (well it is the one you have had for twenty years!!!)
Enduro- Filters out and clean, oil change, spanner check , new tyres.
Anyway each to their own i say, do you have to take a sleeping bag to events to nod off in whilst you are waiting for a section to become free(you could also chat about exciting things like balancing on your bike for a full minute of that that you actually managed to change gear on the last section!!!!!)
Sheepish note- now i am approaching 50 i am planning on taking up trials, do i have to wear Lycra??? also if i take the spark plug out of my enduro bike it will be as fast as a trials bike so i can save money by not having to purchase a push, sorry trails bike.
See you at the next enduro event all your trails riders.
